The 66th poster for Festival del film Locarno 2013 completes the Beauty and the Beast trilogy

The poster for the 66th edition of Festival del film Locarno, created by Jannuzzi Smith, is the last in a series of three posters on the theme Beauty and the Beast. Beauty and the Beast is a classic tale, interpreted in cinematic form by the likes of Jean Cocteau (La Belle et la Bête, 1946) and Walt Disney (Beauty and the Beast, 1991).

The leopard is the time-honoured symbol of the Festival del Film Locarno and in this series of posters Jannuzzi Smith use the story’s protagonists to explore the relationship of film and film-goer: a merging of object and subject; reflection and absorption; a meeting of minds. The lens distorts beauty and beast from subtly different viewpoints, until the two merge; but each retains the essence of their own personality and their particular perspective. Photography is by Matteo Patocchi (the beauty, portrayed by Julia Johansen) and Tim Flach (the beast, a leopard).
