In a referendum on 20 November 2011, the citizens of the Besazio, Ligornetto, Mendrisio and Meride approved the formation of the new “Città di Mendrisio”, with 81% voting in favour.

Jannuzzi Smith developed the communications programme tasked with explaining the changes and opportunities of the new municipality to the 15,000 residents of Alto Mendrisiotto. The “Città di Mendrisio” aims to implement a progressive public government agenda for the area, which includes Monte San Giorgio (a UNESCO World Heritage site) and the popular tourist destination Monte Generoso.
