A spread from a brochure produced as part of the cross-media marketing programme we put in place for Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design (see 8·2). The brochure is compiled using our automated publishing system, which provides instantaneous formatting and layout, improved accuracy and consistency, and award-winning standards of typographic detailing (see 6·1).
We defined an overall visual identity for the programme, governing colourways, typography, image treatment, and materials. The spread shown here uses a method of colour separation that we developed to render naturalistic skin tones using just two colours (the left-hand page). By interspersing 2-colour sections with conventional 4-colour (cmyk) sections, the brochure displays a rich, vibrant colour palette while affording print economies. Similarly, the use of pearlescent paper stock interspersed with rough, recycled paper both heightens the brochure’s material qualities and reduces production costs.
